I want to talk about Pink Slime

Wow I just can't wrap my head around what the beef industry is doing.  Ok in the last 2 -3 years ground beef prices have doubled if not tripled.  So why are they doing this..  adding pink slime to ground beef?

First off I don't buy ground beef in the grocery store.  we buy half cows from my husbands family and it is processed at a local butcher shop (Haen Meats).  They are a top notch business and I don't believe they would do something like this.  But I have eaten hamburgers and had meals made with ground beef (Sloppy Joes)  at family parties and picnics etc...  So I know that I probably have consumed some of this yuck!!  However I have not had a hamburger in a year..  But I've had turkey burgers at fast food places..  do they have the pink slime additive?

What is pink slime?  I want to cry as I explain it as I know it.  These beef processing places are taking parts of the cow that is deemed not suitable for human consumption.  These parts were used for dog food in the past.  Things parts are now treated with ammonia which kills e coli and other germs that are deadly to humans.  Then this pink slime is added to ground beef.  I have read that any time the ground beef is labeled hamburger it will have the pink slime.  However there is no clear way to tell if it's in the ground beef you buy at the grocery store.  McDonalds, Taco Bell and Burger King have stopped using it.  They are saying the only sure fire way to know if it's in there is to watch your butcher grind your meat.  Man!   I'm sitting here thinking about this and how did they ever come up with this?  Then we all sit here and think how can cancer be so out of control..  Well this is one of those things when we say cancer is caused by environment.      We are eating meat that used to be used only for dog food and consuming heated ammonia.  We all know where e coli lives naturally in cows?

The saddest thing about this, now schools are beginning to use it in school lunches.  I know corn prices have skyrocketed  since E-85 production began.  Which caused the meat prices to go high of course the economy is bad which doesn't help.  However the prices have gone up a lot why isn't that enough?

WHY??? Is it greed?

It's been a while

Stride for Breast Cancer Walk at Lambeau field.

This is our team.  It is made up of mostly my inlaws.  My sister inlaw was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer 2 months ago. It was a fun day even though is was very windy.  The back ground the photo is Lambeau Field where the Packers play!

Friday my basement had 2 inches of water in it because our sump pump stopped working and we didn't know it.  I lost some of my inventory.  Most items that weren't listed  yet.  I lost all my huge boxes I was going to use for my Christmas blowmolds.  I was saving them all year long because they huge boxes are hard to find.  Grr!!

My desk top is in the shop now for 2 weeks.  So all my photos and favorites...  oh everything is on that computer.  So it's really hard for me to blog, list on ebay and in my store.  I called today and the person working on it has been very busy with work and she has no time to figure out what the trouble it.  So I'm missing it like you wouldn't believe.  

The weekend before last Mom and I sold at the flea market.  We made half of what we did the last time.  I don't know why.  

The weekend before that I part of my aunts annual rummage sale.  I did really well, sold alot of stuff.  

The weekend before that we were at Jefferson for the carshow and swap meet.  

The weekends for Jefferson and the rummage sale was cold and raining.  The weekend for the flea market was warm, almost 80 degrees.  It wind started last Friday and it's still windy...  it's strange weather that doesn't seem to go away.

My calendar seems a little clearer... except for Halloween.  So I'm hoping I can get back to my blogging routine...  Still wish I had my desk top back... oh well

Random Things Sold at Iola

Yup they are puffer fish lights!!  Just what everyone is looking for and they are only $50 each!!

Talk about a "hot dog", this is how hot it was on set up day!!!  Yeah I know it's pink and Ford is a boy...  I'm telling ya it was hot!!!

Longest Semi at Iola

Yup you are seeing that right there is a huge TV screen on the side of this semi.  It showed movies on it at night during it's stay at Iola.  It felt like the drive in movies!!    We watched National Treasure with Nicholas Cage!

Notice how many parking stalls it takes up!!! 

It's main use is for hauling around race cars and the screen is used for advertising which helps pay for the semi cost and up keep. 

1953 GM Futurliner Parade of Progress #10

This is a really cool bus.  I have seen it before at Iola, however none of the pictures had turned out.  So this time I made sure they turned out.  This was restored a few years ago.  There was only 12 ever made.  Back 2 or 3 years ago one of these sold at Scottsdale AZ auction for 4 million dollars.  I had toured it before, but this time I took Cassie ( a friend of Nicci's who came along with us)  and Nicci.  Cassie sat in the seat and then I told her she was sitting in a 4 million dollar seat, she freaked out a bit!!!  We talked to the caretaker of this a few times.  I just think it's so cool.  The bus is normally kept in Indiana in a museum, however Iola paid for the bus to trucked from Indiana to the Badger port on the Michigan side and then paid for it's trip over on the Badger and then trucked from there to Iola and then back home.

Iola 2010

We arrived on Wednesday morning about 10:30.  The morning started out very muggy and only got worse through the day.  The ground here was so soft from several days of rain, so the area that usually holds the trucks, trailers and campers that are waiting to get into the vendor areas was to soft.  So they started to hold everyone in the camping area until the threat of bad weather came about at noon.  So they started to let everyone in at noon.   This is a strict rule no one allowed on the grounds until 3:00.  Everyone was over joyed to be able to get in early and get an early start.  We were all set up when the rain started.  The rain was welcomed because of the humidity.  We did get some relief then.  Another shower came later but nothing to get excited about, however the grounds were hard on a lot of campers, trailers and motorhomes getting stuck in the mud.  We didn't have any troubles.  Thursday was hot and humid again.  Friday was just hot.  This morning we got up to hot and humid again.  2:00 a storm came through and chased many of the buyers back to their cars.  The storm had high winds but we came through it well.  Now I'm sitting in our trailer with the air on, however it did cool off and the humidity is lower.    We will be leaving tomorrow morning.  It's always so sad for Iola to end.  I've got pictures of the worlds longest semi (Red Giant) and the the 1950's GM Parade of Progress.  I will blog about the details and post the pictures when I get home.  We haven't bought anything to really get into details about... at least not yet!!  Well I better get back to enjoying the show.  I will be catching you up on everything..... take care.
